Following his passion for water sports, GOT BAG founder Benny decided to clean up the ocean by manufacturing backpacks with recycled plastic waste from the Western Pacific. With the iconic GOT BAG ROLLTOP the world’s first backpack made of ocean plastic was developed.

What started as a passion project is now a successful and rapidly growing business. For every travel companion sold, a step forward is made to sensitize people to a more environmentally conscious approach to plastic. All of GOT BAG‘s actions are dedicated to raising awareness and preventing plastic waste from ever getting back into the ocean.

1. Our network of 1,500 fishermen on the north shore of Java, Indonesia, collects ocean plastic as by-catch. The plastic is cleaned and sorted before processed.

2. The PET portion of the by-catch is shredded into pellets, while all other unusable parts of the recovered plastic are discarded according to the right recycling chain.

3. The pellets are shipped to our production facility in China, where we turn them into a robust yarn and ultimately into a polyester fabric. To make our products waterproof, we are using an innovative water-based BIO-PU coating.

4. To keep our CO2 footprint as low as possible, we choose trains to Europe and ships to the US as our means of transport. Additionally, we carbon offset all of our shipping routes to the US and within the US.
